Right Living and God’s Word

All Scripture is inspired by God and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 2 Timothy 3:16 CSB

Read 2 Timothy 3:10-17

Do you ever find yourself questioning your purpose? Asking things like “What am I supposed to be doing?” or “What do you have for my life Lord?”.

Most of us deal with these types of questions pretty regularly, especially when we face tough circumstances. Paul wrote to his protégé Timothy some powerful words that apply to your life and mine. When you read today’s verses, did you pick up on the part where he pointed out that we will ALL have difficult things to deal with and even persecution in some cases? Verse 12 says “In fact, all who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted”.

Probably not the verse you have posted on your fridge, yet a strong word for us to consider because when we struggle, we need to know that it’s not just us and there is something to be learned or gained from what we are dealing with. That’s been a Truth that has gotten me through some very tough times. The knowledge that God has a plan and purpose for me even when I may not be seeing it clearly.

The key for us as believers is to repeatedly go back to Scripture and stay in His Word. Asking questions like “What do you want me to learn Father?” and “how do you want to use this in my life to fulfill your good plans for me?” When we stay in God’s Word, we get the reminder that NOTHING we go through is wasted in God’s economy and if you read on in 2 Timothy 3 you see all the things that Scripture does for us.

The teaching, rebuking, correcting and training are FOR us to guide us in righteousness or right living so that we can live out the life He has for us and make a difference in this world.

  • How do you typically respond when your circumstances get rough?
  • How will you be intentional about positioning yourself to hear from God through His Word?
  • What do you need Scripture to do in your life today?
