The WELl - Daily Devotion 11/15

Oil and perfume make the heart glad,
and the sweetness of a friend comes from his earnest counsel. Proverbs 27:9 i

This verse reminds me that spending time with Godly friends is like sweet perfume to my soul.  Think about how nice it is to have a good smelling candle in your home. Maybe you like the smells that conjure up comfort food feelings or make you feel like you’re at the beach. Whether you’re all about the warm cozy feelings or the fresh breezy vibe, scents can bring about all kinds of emotions and feelings.

Isn’t it cool that Proverbs used the ides of oil and perfume making the heart glad in conjunction with words about friends? Think about those people in your life who make your heart glad. Do they know you’re grateful for them? What about you?  How do you make others feel? Do you. Make the effort to connect with others or tend to isolate?

Often we face the choice of whether to put forth the effort to join others, which is the healthy choice, because staying in and alone is easier.  God designed us to be in fellowship with others.  His plans are always better than our own.  Friends encourage, lift us up, and give good advice when needed.

How is God speaking to you about this verse today?

What do you need to do to step out and seek relationships?
